Ennuit

In Frozen Tears, Parallels a story of love and adventure in today's Alaska, Mary Ann McAfee real life issues and spiritual elements of a story going around, heartbreaking and hopeful create.

Kale Leland is a hydrologist in the remote wilderness of Midland, Alaska. She has a job, friends and a friend of arrogance, that her family approves. My life is very well controlled until she meets Elliot Weaver, an Alaskan Native to The Crusty Miner, a pub. There is a strong attraction between Ennuit bush pilot and raised in California, white girl. Over the objections of friends and family, married Kale Elliot and, despite their cultural differences, the young couple's happy and looking forward to a long life together. He takes her to visit the home village where his family lives, and forming a bond with his grandfather, Ittuq a wolf, the shaman. But if a call that Ittuq is sick, they seek an emergency flight to the village, and it ends in a tragic accident. Elliott dies Kale pregnant and lost in the snowy wilderness. Caught in a maelstrom of grief, loss and confusion, she is led into a cave and later in the village from a gray wolf. She believes Ittuq was a wolf, one last time before he died, he was afraid, and his grandchildren. Kale will love wolves, and they rely on their spiritual leadership in the future, if fate strikes again.

I love to open a book and find myself immersed in another world. Frozen Tears for me. McAfee paints vivid images of Alaska's landscape and weather, which left me breathless. Their descriptions of Ennuit village with its own traditions, extreme poverty and alcoholism to give the story a real deep. Her characters live and breathe. I found myself empathizing with kale and her struggle for every challenge and overcome the loss. This bittersweet story moves the reader to draw faith in ordinary reality and provides a world of mysticism and reincarnation. Themes of environmental awareness in a fascinating discussion about life, love and loss woven. A wonderful story, filled with redemptive hope and the promise of lasting love. I highly recommend it.
